The State Government has decided to establish the Rajmata Jijau Mother-Child
Health and Nutrition Mission at Aurangabad to tackle the grave issues of
malnutrition and mortality among the children. The mission would, over a period
of five years, aim at significantly reducing the incidence of severe
malnutrition amongst children in 0 to 6 age group. The mission objectives
stress on health and nutrition of pregnant and lactating mothers as well as
special attention to children during the first year of the birth. The mission
is headed by a senior officer of the rank of secretary to the State Government.
The mission would undertake major publicity campaign in all towns and villages
of Maharashtra to stress the importance of health and nutrition, with the
ultimate aim of progressively taking over the responsibility for mother and
child care.
